What Are Cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds found in the cannabis plant. Over 100 cannabinoids have been identified, each with unique properties and potential benefits. These compounds interact with your body's endocannabinoid system (ECS) to produce various effects.
CBD (Cannabidiol)
The Wellness Cannabinoid
Non-intoxicating • Most researched
CBD is the most popular and widely researched cannabinoid. It's completely non-intoxicating, meaning it won't get you high. CBD interacts with your endocannabinoid system to promote balance throughout the body.
Commonly used for:
- Daily wellness and balance
- Stress and anxiety support
- Sleep improvement
- Discomfort and inflammation
- Focus and calm
THCa (Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid)
The Potent Precursor
Non-intoxicating raw • Converts to THC when heated
THCa is the acidic precursor to THC. In raw form, it's non-intoxicating. However, when heated (smoking, vaping, dabbing), it converts to THC and produces intoxicating effects.
When heated, commonly used for:
- Euphoric, elevated experiences
- Creativity and mood enhancement
- Relaxation and unwinding
- Appetite stimulation
⚠️ Warning: When heated, THCa converts to THC and will cause intoxication. May result in positive drug test.
CBN (Cannabinol)
The Sleep Cannabinoid
Mildly sedating • Forms as THC ages
CBN forms when THC oxidizes over time. It's known for its sedating properties and is often called the "sleepy cannabinoid." CBN is mildly intoxicating but much less so than THC.
Commonly used for:
- Sleep support
- Relaxation
- Often combined with CBD for nighttime products
CBG (Cannabigerol)
The Mother Cannabinoid
Non-intoxicating • Precursor to other cannabinoids
CBG is called the "mother cannabinoid" because other cannabinoids are derived from its acidic form (CBGa). It's non-intoxicating and is gaining attention for its unique properties.
Research suggests potential for:
- Focus and mental clarity
- Inflammation support
- Digestive wellness
- Often combined with CBD for enhanced effects
The Entourage Effect
The "entourage effect" refers to the theory that cannabinoids work better together than in isolation. This is why full-spectrum products (containing multiple cannabinoids and terpenes) are often preferred over isolates.
Our CBD tinctures are full-spectrum, meaning they contain CBD along with trace amounts of other beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes for enhanced effectiveness.
Quick Comparison
| Cannabinoid | Intoxicating? | Primary Use |
|---|---|---|
| CBD | No | Daily wellness, calm, relief |
| THCa | Yes (when heated) | Euphoria, relaxation |
| CBN | Mildly | Sleep support |
| CBG | No | Focus, wellness |
